A day at sewing class and this is what I finished..
It's for my Sue Ross BOM..so far this is my first finished block in the 9 or so that I have been sent! Hopefully I will have more time to work on them since we now have finished preparing for our school ball.

I spent a fair portion of the last few weeks making these garlands as decorations - the theme was Spanish Fiesta..

In the photo above, can you also spot all the lovely paper roses the school kids had made that were strung across the hall? And then there were all the other little touches that made the hall look just great!

Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of the 100 little lemon cakes and 6 slabs of brownies that I also made for the night...it was just too busy a week!

And my quilt that I'd made?? Well, my lovely hubby bought it back again..he was just attempting to bring the price up and we ended up coming home with it!! So we will just have to look at the darn thing for a bit longer... :-)

Why quilting is not like childbirth..

Unfortunately quilting is not like having a baby.
When you have a baby, you look at this funny little squished, red, swollen faced little human being - and even if you have a hubby like mine, who's saying such delightful things like, "where is his chin?", "look at the shape of his feet" etc etc - you are just filled with this amazing feeling that this child is the most beautiful child in the world. You forget the pain, the morning sickness, the kicks into an already susceptible bladder and the joys of delivering an 11 pound child, and you are just filled with this sense of wonder. Yay, for those post-natal hormones! (and don't ask me how you can have "the most beautiful child in the world' four times!)

Quilting is not like this. I have finally finished my charm quilt and it has been such a long, frustrating process - filled with a huge amount of unpicking - ridiculous amounts of unpicking - that even though I think it's turned out OK, I still don't love it.

There just aint no post-quilt-finish hormones..which is probably lucky as there is enough hormones in this little black duck as it is!

It is to be used for an auction item for our school ball...and I'm wondering how long it will be before someone notices those "interesting" squares.

So it is a quilt I will happily say "adios' to...
Do you have a quilt/project like this too?
bye..

As promised before, here is a photo of the lovely pincushions I received from the pincushion swap. Aren't they just gorgeous - made by the lovely Vanessa over at Piecing, Patching A piece of chocolate cake (calorie free!) and another sweet pincushion made from a vintage doily.

I also wanted to show off my girl's artistic tendencies. Below is my salad that I ordered from the "Mother's Day Cafe" that the kids had set up in the backyard as, of course, a mother's day treat.

They had gone to so much effort - they had set up table and chairs, placed flowers onto the table and made a menu and sign. It's a bit tricky to see in this photo but believe me there is a sign there saying "Mother's Day Cafe"

I loved it!With that, plus lovely pressies and a night out (ie no cooking!!), it was a great day.

And the sewing goes on...

You know that you are in for some serious sewing when the fabric comes in rolls, not pieces.

Our local school has an annual ball and this silly bunny volunteered to make huge (7m swags) to hang in the hall. Easy sewing, as in it's all a straight line, but just a bit tricky with that volume of fabric!

Besides being buried in red fabric I have also been quilting away on my charm squares quilt. Lots of straight (ish) lines and then I have been having a go at free motion flower thingys..

Hopefully I'll be back to show you it finished sometime soon! But until then here is the pincushion I made for my online quilting group's pincushion swap.(just so you know that I occasionally finish something!)

Promise I'll show you the two lovely ones I received back next time!
